The basics
Crossword Generator (crossword.texs.org) is a free hobby project. By using it you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
Your puzzles
You keep ownership of the puzzles you create. By publishing a puzzle to the Showcase you give us permission to display it publicly, alongside the title and author name you provide. Clues you write stay in your puzzle and aren't added to the site's shared clue database. The one exception is an AI clue suggestion you choose to use: the AI's original wording may be saved and suggested to other constructors for the same answer, without your name attached, and it stays in the database if your puzzle is later removed. You can ask for a published puzzle to be removed at any time.
Acceptable use
Don't publish puzzles containing content that is unlawful, hateful, or harassing, and don't attempt to disrupt or abuse the service (including automated scraping or flooding the AI clue generator). We may remove content or restrict access at our discretion to keep the Showcase a pleasant place.
The author name on a puzzle must be your own, a pseudonym you made up, your site's, or that of someone who agreed to be credited — don't attribute a puzzle to another constructor, publication, or brand. The Showcase is curated: submitting a puzzle is a request for review, not a right to a listing, and we may decline or remove any puzzle without giving a reason.
API attribution
If a product or service uses the Crossword Generator API, it must include a reasonably visible link to crossword.texs.org. Use the provided Crossword Generator logo where images are practical; a plain-text “Powered by Crossword Generator” link is fine for command-line tools, voice interfaces, printed material, and other formats that cannot display the logo. You may resize the logo, but don't alter it or imply that Crossword Generator endorses your product.
AI-generated clues
Clue suggestions may be generated by AI. They're suggestions, so review them before publishing; you're responsible for the content of puzzles you publish.
Dictionary sources and licenses
Some fallback definitions and answer spellings come from Open English WordNet, Wiktionary editions processed through Kaikki/Wiktextract or DBnary, and Wikidata Lexemes. Depending on the source, this material is available under CC BY 4.0, CC BY-SA 3.0, CC BY-SA 4.0, or CC0 1.0. The complete source and attribution list records the edition, source URL, and applicable license.
No warranty
The site is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind. It's a personal project: features may change, break, or disappear, and published data may occasionally be lost. Keep local exports (JSON or .puz) of puzzles you care about.
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the site.
