Using this tool you can make NYTimes and Guardian-style crosswords as well as criss-cross style, and they're all free to solve. You don't need an account, and there's nothing to install.

How to make a Spanish crossword
A Spanish crucigrama is a numbered grid with the clues beside it, listed under Horizontales and Verticales. Spanish-language newsstands, in Spain and across Latin America, mostly sell something else: the autodefinido, with definitions printed inside the shaded cells and arrows pointing at the answers. English calls that an arrowword. The puzzles here are crucigramas.
They run smaller and tighter than most languages on this site. Several are 7×7 and 9×9 American-style grids where every letter belongs to two answers at once. Spanish copes well with that shape, partly because its words almost always end in a vowel or in S, so the last square of an Across rarely blocks a Down.
The answers are dictionary words in their base form. A single Spanish verb has more than forty written forms, and a grid full of CANTARA and ÉRAMOS is dull to solve, so the long answers here are words like SERVICIOS, ANIMACIÓN, CANDIDATO and CONCIERTO.
Alphabet
Ñ gets its own square, the accents come off
Ñ is a full letter, not a decorated N, and it behaves like one here. It takes its own square and has to be typed as itself. AÑO is three letters, and ANO is a different word.
The accents are the opposite case. Á, É, Í, Ó and Ú go in as A, E, I, O and U, and Ü goes in as U, so ACCIÓN is gridded ACCION and PINGÜINO is PINGUINO. Spanish crosswords have always done this, and it means you never have to work out whether a square wants the accent.
Solvers who learned the alphabet before the 1990s learned two extra letters. CH and LL were alphabetized as single letters until 1994, and they were formally dropped from the alphabet in 2010.
That is why some older puzzles gave CH a square of its own. These grids follow the modern rule: CH and LL take two squares each, like any other pair of letters.
